As the
U.S. gets ready to welcome sweeping change in our nation’s capital, we too at
INNER EAR will once again experience our own change, as we said good-bye to
leaving co-host ?ue (pronounced
Que) last month and welcome New Co-host “Scurvy” this month to the INNER EAR
poetry family. If the name Scurvy sounds familiar, this talented performer
comes to us by way of our defunct sister show the BEAT DOWN SLAM. He is known
outside the poetry scene as a local performance artist working with fire as
well as acting in local stage productions and is a favorite regular of the Ear.
DJ Smack Jilly and I Welcome this

BIOGRAPHY
Jon Sands' poetry is a
genuine look into the mind of a moment wrapped up neatly into an anvil, then
dropped from a sixty story building. A Cincinnati native, Sands now resides in
New York City's legendary poetry scene where in his first year of slam competition
he captured a slot on the LouderARTS New York City poetry slam team, the
youngest person ever to do so; then, upshot through the nation as a finalist at
the National Poetry Slam in Austin, TX. A leader in the next generation of
poetic voices, Sands has toured throughout North America performing and
conducting workshops from university theatres, to dimly lit pubs, to Manhattan needle exchange
centers. Cristin O'Keefe Aptowicz,
author of "Words In Your Face: A Guided Tour Through Twenty Years of the
New York City Poetry Slam" said, “To witness the poetry of Jon Sands is to
come face-to-face with a force of nature. He is a baby-faced cyclone, a wild
twister of poet who isn't afraid to use everything he's got to move an
audience, to absolutely blow them away.” He has published two chapbooks, “In
its Own Imaginative Engine” and “Being Human Being” with JKpublishing, as well
as the forthcoming “I Got a Letter from Midtown.” Jon is perpetually attempting to discover
what makes the sloppy muscle inside our ribs tick into such a beautiful mess.
