"Spirits of the Forest" An Installation by Joy Johnson/Mixed Media "Destinations and Icons" by Jerrie Peters/Paintings
Both Gallery 25 members present an intriguing exhibit for the month of October at G25. Joy Johnson's body of work with the hand-on approach to mixed media is reflected in primitive cross cultural influences. Metaphorically rooted in spiritualism, her art is strongly influenced by her travels. Using the symbolic use of the ladder she creates the spirits of the forest surrounded with "spirit stix" representing spiritual ascension. Jerrie Peters' landscape paintings are interpreted through a "linescape" of minimal representation in both color and juxtaposition. This body of work is influenced through her travels in representing aboriginal, southwest, west coast and pacific island influences. "When you see it you say to yourself, if I paint this, it will not look real, but it is-".
