Gallery 25 April 2 ArtHop

"Portrait"
Lynne Anderson/Paintings

"Sympathy"
Kirtley King/Photo-installation

Gallery 25 member's Lynne Anderson and Kirtley King explore the photographic medium as a visual expression for the G25 April exhibit. Lynne Anderson translates her photographic imagery with paint as a record of the various intensities of light taken in that split second. The manipulation of bits of paint on a surface can create a powerful and sustained illusion of the fierce and graceful poise of each model. Kirtley King's photo-installation is a visual response to the Paul Laurence Dunbar poem entitled "Sympathy". The work explores the idea threaded through the poem of freedom of the spirit versus physical freedom. This large format installation consists of photographs of clouds that are 12" x 18" tiled squares which surround the interior gallery walls. The imagery is borne out of a series of images created by Alfred Stieglitz called "The Equivalents" and the work done by the street photography of the 1950's-70's.
