[FAC] Fresno City College Presents City Dances Spring Concert 2009

The Fresno City College Theatre and Dance Department is pleased to
announce the City Dances Spring Concert 2009 at the Fresno City College
Theatre, April 30, May 1, and 2 at 7:30 p.m. and May 3 at 2:00 p.m.
General Admission is $12, students $10, group rate (10 or more people)
is $4 each. Call the FCC Theatre Box Office at 442-8221 for ticket
information.

 

A sneak preview of the dress rehearsal will be held on Wednesday, April
29 at 7:30 p.m.  The sneak preview is $5. 

 

City Dances Spring Concert is a blend of faculty and student
choreography.  Artistic director Michele Ainza says that this semester's
work consists of a wide variety of contemporary pieces ranging from
political statements, experimental, lyrical, playful, and classical.

 

Los Angeles based choreographer, Alexandria Yalj, is this concert's
guest artist. Alexandria Yalj is originally from New York City. Back on
the east coast, Yalj studied dance at the Limon Institute and was an
apprentice for Jennifer Muller/The Works. She has had the opportunity to
show her work and perform throughout the Los Angeles and New York
Metropolitan area as well as the United Kingdom. Last year she presented
an evening work at the Berkshire Fringe Festival in Massachusetts. She
is an on-going performer for Stephan Koplowitz's Task Force, touring in
England this summer. She is also a principal dancer for Rosanna
Gamson/Worldwide. Alexandria's performance experience ranges from
site-specific work, improvisation, to dance theatre. With an MFA in
Choreography from California Institute of the Arts, she has been
fortunate to work in collaboration with her dancers and designers on
"Dismantling Self". It is her on-going goal as an artist to stretch the
boundaries of diverse art forms and free dance from the confines of an
exclusively dance oriented audience. Her work is intended as a medium
for artistic communication and social activism.
