"Being a Woman" Paintings-Then and Now

For the month of February Gallery 25 members Mary Maughelli and Ed Gillum exhibit their new work. Mary Maughelli's new work on wood panels and paper is an involvement in searching and revisiting images and ideas about growing up, being a woman, and moving forward. Rotating seated figures, the female torso and the child woman symbolize examination and expression of these ideas through mixed media and collage. Some selected paintings from earlier work are included that pertain to this exhibit. 
Ed Gillum's installation piece deals with properties and principles of japanese architecture know as "tenshu shinbashira". This means tower/central pillar which for centuries was the technique used to build pagodas. Ed Gillum's installation will employ this technique by placing a structure on a pillar of light and at the same time challenge the viewer's optical observation.
