Bio

Lemuel “The Saint” Gonsalves
hails from Stockton, CA. His writing journey
began in high school constructing love poems to girls he was afraid to talk to.
He started to develop his craft more in his father’s church doing pieces for
the congregation. The response was great but he felt that he had more to say and
wanted to reach a broader audience. A few years ago, a nationwide spoken word competition called “Step To The Mic” came
to the valley and Saint was born. Since then, he has released a cd and has
performed all over California. His style infuses humor, passion, and ideals
which inspire as well as entertain. He is also an accomplished singer,
songwriter, and actor. He has opened for hip-hop artist Talib
Kweli and has instructed in several writing workshops for young people
in high schools and youth centers. This past summer, he hosted Stockton's only
poetry open mic called "Art Spoken Here". He brings a fresh
perspective to an old art form.
