[FAC] Teen Creative Writing Summer Workshops

Friends of the Oakhurst Branch Library and Poets & Writers, Inc. (from  
a grant it has received from the James Irvine Foundation) is  
sponsoring a free creative writing workshop for teens this summer.

Instructor Mary Lee Gowland is a published poet and author who has  
taught children and adults in Madera County for many years.
She is a board member of California Poets in the Schools and  
coordinated Poetry Out Loud, the national recitation competition, at  
five Madera County high schools.

"I'm happy to be working with teens because I had my first book of  
poems published when I was nineteen and I remember how liberating it  
was to learn how express my thoughts and feelings through poetry."  
says Gowland.

The workshop will be held on six consecutive Tuesdays from 5:00 – 6:30  
p.m. at the Oakhurst Branch Library, starting on July 7. Pre-
