A Flea in Her Ear: a fun-filled farce for the audience


 

The Fresno City College Theatre and Dance Department presents the David
Ives contemporary piece A Flea in Her Ear March 6-14.  Debbi Shapazian
is directing.

 

Performances are March 6, 7, 11,12,13,14 at 7:30 p.m.  The matinee shows
will be held March 5, 8 and 14th at 2:00 p.m. All performances will be
held in the FCC Theatre.  Call the FCC Theatre Box Office at 442-8221

A Flea in Her Ear is a contemporary adaptation of Georges Feydeaus'
farce by David Ives.  Director Debbi Shapazian describes the play as a
contemporary comedy or farce that toys with the common perceptions and
the common misconceptions people may endure given a few interesting
circumstances. 

 

In the play, Raymonde Chandebise suspects that her husband Victor
Emmanuel's recent disinterest in her is due to infidelity.  Raymonde
seeks the advice of one of her dearest friends, Luciennce, and together
they plot a "trap" for the suspect, Victor.  The plot is to send a
fictitious letter advising Victor to meet at the Frisky Puss Hotel
unbeknownst that various members of the Chandebise family and friends
would be in attendance.  

 

Shapazian says that people who come to see the play will enjoy the
audience-included atmosphere. "We want the experience to be from the
moment they walk in to the very end," says Shapazian. 

 

The play involves a unique concept that weaves the audience into the
storyline by having the performance without the use of a stage curtain.
The audience will be able to see such things as set changes that would
usually be masked behind the set curtain.  This gives a little insight
into the hard work that is put into the play as well as a
behind-the-scenes look at the physical endurance that is involved.
