Join HandsOn Central California on Thursday, May 21, 2009 from 4:30 PM to 7
PM for an exciting opportunity to meet three local authors who have spent
years in teaching conflict resolution, American humanics, and cultural
studies.  This unique book signing will provide you the opportunity to ask
the authors any questions about their books, and for them to offer insight
into their teachings.   HandsOn Central California will also be offering
light refreshments.   All books will be for sale at this event.

Brief Narrative:

• Jackie Ryle, Ph.D. All I Want Is A Little Peace is a straightforward,
practical guide to conflict resolution.  Succinct, focused, easy to read and
understand, this book presents the five steps of the interest-based approach
to effective communication and conflict resolution.

• Matthew A. Jendian, Ph.D. Becoming American, Remaining Ethnic: The Case of
Armenian-Americans in Central California provides a snapshot of the oldest
Armenian community in the western United States.  His work explores the
processes of assimilation and ethnicity across four generations and examines
forms of ethnic identity and intermarriage.  He offers assimilation and the
retention of ethnicity as two, somewhat independent, processes, and his
findings demonstrate their co-existence.  Assimilation is not a zero-sum
phenomenon, but rather multidimensional and multidirectional.  Matthew A.
Jendian is Associate Professor of Sociology and Director of the American
Humanics Nonprofit Administration Program at California State University,
Fresno.  He teaches courses on race/ethnicity, terrorism and genocide,
social issues, public policy, and advocacy.

• Suzanne Moreno, M.Ed. The Latino’s Guide to Parenting provides 50
effective ways to raise a family in today’s demanding world.  This book
gives practical advice in an easy to read format which covers:  how to make
life decision that positively affect your family; how to be proactive for
your children to ensure that they get the education they need to succeed in
life; and, realistic ways to face the challenges of being Latino in today’s
society.
