STELLAR GALLERY - "Dia Del Los Muertos" a group exhibit celebrating the Day
of the Dead.

at the historic Pacific Saloon building in Hornitos CA
October 31 to November 2, 2009

Exhibit Hours Noon to 8 PM Saturday ( Halloween ), Noon to 5 PM on Sunday,
Noon to 9 PM on Monday

Artists Reception - All Souls Day, Monday Nov 2, 2009 4PM to 9 PM

This exhibit is three days only, and takes place at the Historic Pacific
Saloon ( 1861 ) located on the Plaza in the 19th Century Gold Mining town of
Hornitos. With a population of less than 100 people, Hornitos is a living
ghost town, with a rich history of mining, ranching, and banditry on the
lawless frontier!

The exhibit will be open Halloween weekend, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday,
Oct 31st to Nov 2nd . The best day to attend is All Souls Day, Monday,
November 2nd, for the artist's reception. The reception takes place the
same evening as the annual Day of the Day activities and candle lit
procession held in Hornitos.

We recommend arriving in the afternoon, exploring the town, visiting the
exhibit, then taking part in the other Day of the Dead activities. As
evening draws near, people gather in the Plaza, and candles are lit in the
graveyard and along the procession route. The procession begins just after
dusk and culminates with outdoor ceremonies at the cemetery, followed by an
optional mass at the adjoining St. Catherine's Church, then a fund raising
feed back at the town hall benefiting the Hornitos Patron's Club. It is a
lovely and moving event, as well as a chance to honor friends and loved ones
who have passed on. The exhibit will be open from 4 to 9 PM, closing
briefly during the procession.

How do I get there? Driving time from Oakhurst is about an hour. From
Mariposa or Merced, take Hwy 140 to Catheys Valley, then turn north on
Hornitos Road and follow the signs. From Oakhurst or Mariposa, take Hwy 49
North through Mariposa, then left on the Old Toll Road, or Bear Valley Road.

If you have the time, and don't mind bumpy pavement, we recommend the Old
Toll Road. It is bumpy and narrow here and there, but a beautiful drive.
Watch out for tarantulas crossing the road along the way. It is that time of
year! Other routes are just as good, and may confuse the Federales if they
are out to ambush you! Viva Joaquin!
