SHIFTING BOUNDARIES
a new series of art from Aileen Imperatrice.

How do we evolve?
Our lives give us many opportunities to expand
our perspectives.  We start out mostly influenced
by our families and we are taught values and beliefs
close to theirs.  As we grow older we decide for 
ourselves if these beliefs should continue, do we
think they are valid?  

This series shares my visual thoughts on taking the
views we are given and allowing ourselves to shift
them.  We create our own boundaries by how we
choose to see and interact with the world.  We 
become confined; defined by our bodies, our minds, 
our actions.  We can either be isolated by these 
beliefs or we can be liberated by opening our minds.  
By allowing ourselves to review and refresh our perspectives 
we broaden our life experience.  In the end, it's up
to us to redefine, escape our containment; shift our 
boundaries.

In my art, I allow myself to experiment with different 
genres and techniques.  This art series went into a 
more abstract form of expression than I've done before.  
I have been motivated by work I've encountered over 
the last year and by my chosen theme for this series, 
which lead me to choose to take this specific journey 
at this time.  By doing this, I have allowed my own art 
to evolve and expand the way I approach my artistic 
expression.  It opens the door for whichever direction 
my art will take next.
