Eight-week classes in fiction, nonfiction and memoir writing will be offered
beginning Monday, Feb. 22 at Scene Gallery, located at the southwest corner
of Palm and Nees. "Focus Your Writing: Memoirs and Narrative Nonfiction" and
Focus Your Writing: Getting Published" will be taught by Bonnie Hearn Hill.
Student writers of fiction and nonfiction will learn the focused approach to
writing and editing their work. In addition to class lectures and input, the
instructor will edit all student submissions and make marketing suggestions.
She is a novelist whose books have been published in 12 languages and will
debut a new young adult series this year. A former newspaper editor, she has
mentored many beginning and advanced writers, including body language expert
and bestselling author Tonya Reiman, actress Melissa Anderson, author of a
memoir about co-starring in Michael Landon's "Little House on the Prairie,"
and Hazel Dixon-Cooper astrologer/author and columnist for Cosmopolitan
magazine.
"Beginning Fiction Writing" will be taught by Larry Hill, author of the
short story collection, "Saroyan's Bookie." His work has appeared in many
literary journals, and he was recently named winner of New York University's
Goldenberg Prize for Fiction (final judge, Gail Godwin). The class will
cover the techniques of structuring character-driven fiction, and students
will learn from their own writing in a workshop atmosphere.
Fee for the eight-week classes is $50, and registration is limited in order
to provide intensive one-on-one instruction. For information, call
